Description
A 3d-printable dust cover for the 6" Celestron NexStar Evolution 6 (very similar to 6SE I believe) telescope, in three flavours:
The cover wedges in place between the outer and inner walls of the tube's front bevel.
PrusaSlicer project, Blender project and model files are available, so you can easily change the text or make other changes.
I don't actually have a photograph of the exact models presented here. I printed an earlier, less refined version, although the tube-fitting dimensions are identical. It isn't worth printing a second cover just for photos - gotta think of the 'ol mother earth, y’know!
Printing Recommendations
The included .3mf files contain my highly customized settings with variable height, support blockers, and support enforcers, mainly to just cut down on print-time and cost. Please look at the sliced results to make your own judgement on whether or not you want to adjust the settings before printing. These projects take around 5.5-6.5 hours (depending on cover flavour) on my Prusa i3MK3S.
Material: I printed this with Prusament PLA, but the material shouldn't matter much.
Supports: None of the covers require any supports. Saturn will however print better with just a tiny bit of supports between the floor and the ceiling of the cut-out, so that the material doesn't sag. The type of support for said area doesn't matter much as the area is very small.
Layer height: 0.3mm is fine but art, text and handles can look better with lower layer heights.
Infill: Only minimal Infill (5-10%) is required for the first 5mm, for the lid proper; the cylinder walls should be strong enough without any infill.
Shells / Perimeters: 2 vertical perimeters (1.14mm), 3 solid bottom, 5 solid top.
