I work in a building with dozens, if not hundreds, of access panels. The ones I most frequently access need a ¼" hex wrench to open the door. I got tired of carrying a hex wrench in my pocket when I needed into the panels, or having to go get one when I wasn't carrying it.
I designed this to put a compact, easy-to-turn, strong key for these panel doors right on my key ring, with a wide head (mimicking a common Weiser key).
I specifically designed it to print flat (for maximum torsion strength) with no supports.
Suggested print setup:
- Layer Height: This model needs to be no more than ¼" (6.35mm) high to fit properly, and preferably not much smaller. Using a layer height that is a close or exact multiple will give you the best result. If you use a first layer that is a different height, remember to account for that.
- Variable layer height recommended.
- If not variable: 0.127 and 0.254 layers are precise multiples of 6.35mm (50 and 25 total layers, respectively).
- If you are supertuned for a common 0.24mm first layer height, 0.235mm layers is a precise multiple of the remainder.
- Enough perimeters to make the shank mostly solid (this will vary based on your nozzle size/line width).
- Enough top and bottom layers to make the key head mostly solid except for 1-3 layers.
- 50% infill
