Description
The highly desirable and reliable Jena 1D two-stroke internal combustion engine designed for aircraft. It was produced in the GDR in the years around 1960. It was the smallest of its kind.
I have one of these left over from long ago and it's time to put it on display.
I've sculpted what I think is a cool and stylish stand for it. I based the tail of the plane on a Messerschmitt BF 109G.
If you also have such an engine at home, be sure to display it, it's a beautiful piece of technology and also history.
I used Prusament PLA Red Lipstick to print the vertical legs. Some metallic filament would be better, to better resemble the beautiful red elox used on the engine components. But I didn't have that.
I printed the silver parts from Eryone Silk PLA Silver. I had to fiddle with speeds, bed and nozzle temperatures for a while. The generic PLA setup led to terrible results. I used the manufacturer's recommendation and dropped the bed temperature another 10 degrees Celsius because the print wouldn't come off. In the end, though, it all worked out fine.
I printed everything with a 0.4 nozzle, no supports.
