Electrical safety warning:
Messing with electrics is dangerous and carries risk of death. Please don't attempt to use this electrical box if you are not familiar with electric safety procedures and regulations in force in your country. Your safety is not my responsibility.
Description:
This is an electrical box that I've modified for fitting a meanwell RD-85 power supply. I've designed a wire guard to go over the electrical contacts and help with safety.
Check out the original box here. It is really nice and very versatile.
Assembly:
- The 4 raised pads with through-holes on the floor of the box are meant to receive M3 heat inserts - 2x for the wire guard and 2x for the PSU.
- Please note that the M3 bolts can't be too long or they will protrude from the bottom of the box. I am using 10mm bolts inc head and needed 1 washer for the PSU fittings. The wire guard has a bit more thread space due to the thickness of the part.
- Insert the back bolt about ⅓ in, add a washer if necessary (depends on the length of your screw)
- Slide the PSU under the head of the rear bolt then sit it in place. I updated the model to add some clearance for the key to reach the bolt - but in the photos the cutout has been filed by hand. If the bolts need a washer, you have to slide the PSU in upside-down to keep the washer on the head of the bolt.
- Tighten the rear bolt; fit the front bolt, tighten;
- Wire the PSU;
- Fit the wire guard (optional) with 2x bolts;
