Description

I designed a sleek Apple Watch stand (I hope you’ll think it’s cool too) that fits the Apple Watch charger.

I was tired of stands that move around whenever you try to take the watch off. That’s why I made the stand openable and fillable with anything that fits inside to add weight. 

For mine, I used 125g (4.4 oz) of small nails to fill it as much as possible (but you can use screws, ball bearings, sand… – though nails was the most cost-effective for me). Combined with the fact that it was printed with 90% infill, it weighs 245g (8.65 oz), which is heavy enough to stay in place when you put the watch on or take it off.

For the build : 

 

You’ll need 8x M3 x 12mm or shorter countersunk screws.

 

You can choose between two different bottom parts :

  • One without a TPU pad
  • One with a TPU pad (the TPU pad is simply glued in place with cyanoacrylate glue).

 

There are four top parts, each corresponding to a different tolerance level to ensure your charger fits perfectly. There are also four test pieces to help you find the tolerance that best matches your printer while avoiding wasting too much filament (The 0.2mm one fits perfectly with my Series 7 charger, which measures 27.6mm in diameter using a caliper.).

To summarize:

 

  1. Print the sample tolerance top part to determine which one fits your charger best.
  2. Print the corresponding top part (90% infill recommended).
  3. Print the middle part (90% infill recommended).
  4. Print the bottom part, with or without the TPU âd (90% infill recommended; 15% infill for the TPU part).
  5. Insert the charger into the top piece and set it aside.
  6. Fill the middle part with screws, nails, sand...
  7. Route the cable through the middle part from the top until the top part is flat against the middle part.
  8. Place the charger cable into the groove.
  9. Secure the bottom part with 4 screws.
  10. Secure the top part with 4 screws.
