easy-pull Apple MagSafe charging stand
I've been leaning my phone against junk on my desk for a while, now, and I don't like it.
I wanted a stand that is both stylish and makes it super easy to pick up the phone when I need it. all of the stands that I looked at on here are stylish, but look like they'd be hard to get the phone off of—unless I clamp them to the desk, somehow. so I designed this.
this stand makes it easy to see the phone in StandBy mode, and easy to remove the phone when it's done charging.
I'm planning to do another one with a weighted base, but that's a future project.
features
- the stand displays the screen at a comfortable 60° angle
- the new, larger tab at the top makes it even easier to remove the phone
- sized to fit any iPhone, even with a large case
- added feet, to make it's profile on your desk look more professional
- the cord routing channel includes rounded tabs to hold the cord in,
- the cord channel has a gentle curve so that your cord won't be stressed if something pulls on it
- an open back for better heat transfer while charging
- a new lip around the inside of the opening, to help hold in the cord, so that you can coil it inside the stand if you want to carry it with you
- two versions—one for the 55.5mm Apple MagSafe charger, and one 55.7, for the other charger I have (marked with “55.5”, and “55.7”)
printing
- prints without supports if printed on its back
- if your charger runs a little warm, consider PETG (my 3rd party one def. runs warmer than my Apple one). if the ring expands enough, the charger can become a bit loose.
- 5% gyroid infill worked fine
- 3 walls feels plenty strong
- ironing all top surfaces with a rectilinear pattern only added a few minutes, but made the front face really smooth

- I was dissatisfied with the look of the v1
- the tab on the top of the v1 was a little small, so I made it easier to press to remove the phone
- I wanted to coil the cord inside the stand when I was carrying it with me to work, but the cord fell out, so I added a lip to help retain the cord
- I added feet, because I think it looks better
- I tightened the cord retention tabs: the cord wasn't falling out, but it didn't feel secure. inserting the woven cord on the Apple charger felt just about perfect; the slightly thicker rubber cord on the 3rd party unit was difficult but possible
