Welcome To Card Slinger 3.0! Here are some update notes
- Now available for purchase for those who cant print their own! www.cardslinger.shop !
- New design includes removable tray that accommodates both sleeved and un-sleeved cards
- Now in 2 models, Card slinger and card slinger lite, lite fitting only un-sleeved cards, phone stands are interchangeable and backwards compatible
- The left hand offset phone stand is retired, as many were printed by mistake as its a very uncommon camera orientation on phones.
What is the card slinger?
- The first of its kind, this tool is designed to assist in scanning a large number of MTG cards at once using the ManaBox app → or similar apps
- The Card Slinger funnels cards as you toss them into the scanning zone, centering them so the ManaBox ( or similar ) app can do its job quickly and efficiently, allowing you to scan card after card faster than any other manual method.
- This is a significant improvement over moving cards in and out of the frame one at a time by hand, and you can scan over 150 cards before needing to empty the tray.
- This is NOT an official mana box product, or in any way shape or form affiliated with them, mana box is just the best scanning app out there for MTG
Buy instead of print!
- Cant print your own? The card slinger is now available for purchase for those who cant print their own! www.cardslinger.shop !
Printing tips
- You MUST print in clear/ transparent filament or matte white for best results,
I love transparent PETG for this as it lets some light in, if you dont, the scanning function may not work properly under most or any lighting conditions. a hazy cloud like opacity is best, not crystal clear.
- The print requires about 400g of filament with phone stand, this mass is needed for strength and balance when the phone is on the stand.
- Print the phone arms on their sides where the arm will rest flat on the surface, this orients the layers in the strongest direction, with tree supports if possible, and I've found that it benefited from a brim on non enclosed printers.
- If you print and find the fit of the phone arm to body of the slinger is loose, increase the scale of the arm by 1 or 2 % and print again, i did my best to provide tolerances that would suit entry level printers at .4mm tolerances
- I have printed with 3 perimeter walls, 4 top and bottom, and at 7.5% infill and it is quite robust
User Tips and App
- Mana box is easily the best app for this →, hands down and recognizes MOST cards, and has quick features to set a card as foil, or change set etc
- Here is a quick video of my settings and use of ManaBox → - I use the “prefer foil” checkbox to scan foil items in bulk separately from std. print cards **
- Here is the mana box getting started guide → very helpful for first time users
- ** Scanning in sleeved cards successfully is dependent on lighting conditions, angle, sleeve type, and application, some patience and experimentation is required
FAQ
- What app is used? Manabox! This is an android, and iOS native app, it has settings to auto add cards that are scanned, and make sounds, tally costs, etc. It’s awesome, and has the best card recognition success rate of any I have tested. It can export to most deck building and collection management sites
- Can you scan sleeved cards? Yes, results depending on application, it is suggested to experiment with lighting and the space you are in for best results. Patience and experimentation is required. The card slinger fits sleeved cards of various sleeve types! The Card Slinger Lite fits only un-sleeved cards.
- Does it damage the backs of cards? No, not that I can tell, I have scanned in thousands of cards with my pre production units, and I can't find any damage
- Does it damage the corners of cards? Again, as above, no! Not that I can see from scanning thousands of cards
- Is it possible to damage cards while scanning using the sling box? 100% it is possible, and it's possible to damage cards using any method if you are rough, but it is fully avoidable. careless or use too much force when handling cards. From what I can tell, this method of using the card slinger does less damage to cards than any mechanical method.
- Why is the card slinger white / transparent? To let light in and allow the camera to get maximum exposure on the cards, allowing you to scan in modest light conditions.
- Can I download, print, and sell the card slinger? Absolutely not! And no, you cant “rent time” on your printer to sell the Card Slinger to get around this either. The card slinger is free for all to download and print and use for themselves, but not to use for profit, please respect this agreement. Those violate this agreement will be pursued. As of November 2024 this basic design and invention has a patent pending, please act accordingly.
