Description
I bought some cheap 32l folding boxes branded by Tontarelli since I purchased similar ones from the same company about 20 years ago. I found them extremely stable until the plastic became a bit brittle recently. I found that the new model went through a minor redesign making the hinges unreliable since they easily allow the knuckles to slip off the pins of the hinges even under minimal load.
Since otherwise the boxes seem to be of good quality I designed some filler elements that can be screwed into the gap besides the hinges, preventing the knuckles from slipping off the pin. To install them you need to drill small holes below the hinges into the box to attach the filler elements to the box. Alternatively, you could glue the filler elements in but this obviously would prevent you from disassembling the box should you ever need to do so.
I used M3x10 screws for attachment. Alternatively, you could use self-tapping screws since those might not need drilling and are likely easier to install.
The attached STL file contains 8 of the same filler elements since the box comes with 8 hinges and to repair the complete box you will need to fix all 8 hinges.
