Desiccant wheel for spools

This small drum is mainly used to hold desiccants such as silica gel. It is exactly the right size to fit into a filament roll of approx. 60 mm width, as used by Prusament, for example. If the filament spool is placed in a drying box during printing, such as those offered by the manufacturer Sunlu, you can support the drying process of the box on the one hand and keep the spool dry during printing on the other. The drying boxes are usually relatively compact, have no space for a bag of desiccant and the desiccant cannot simply be placed loose in the box. The openings or holes in the drum are designed so that the spherical silica gel cannot trickle out.

It is advisable to print the entire model with a transparent filament, as this makes it very easy to see whether the silica gel has reached its moisture saturation state. This can usually be recognized by the fact that it changes from a light orange tone to a dark green or blue.

This model can also be used as a printing test. The circular shape in conjunction with the thread makes it easy to check the dimensional accuracy in the X, Y and Z directions.

Diese kleine Trommel dient hauptsächlich zur Aufnahme von Trockenmitteln wie Silica Gel. Sie hat genau die richtige Größe, um in eine Filamentrolle von ca. 60 mm Breite zu passen, wie sie z.B. bei Prusament verwendet wird. Wird die Filamentspule während des Druckens z.B. in eine Trockenbox, wie sie z.B. der Hersteller Sunlu anbietet, gesteckt, kann man einerseits den Trocknungsprozess der Box unterstützen und andererseits die Spule während des Druckens trocken halten. Die Trockenboxen sind in der Regel relativ kompakt, haben keinen Platz für einen Beutel mit Trockenmittel und man kann das Trockenmittel auch nicht einfach lose in die Box geben. Die Öffnungen oder Löcher in der Trommel sind so gestaltet, dass das kugelförmige Silicagel nicht herausrieseln kann.

Es empfiehlt sich, das gesamte Modell mit einem durchsichtigen Filament zu bedrucken, da man so sehr gut erkennen kann, ob das Silica Gel seinen Feuchtigkeitssättigungszustand erreicht hat. In der Regel erkennt man dies daran, dass es von einem hellen Orangeton in ein dunkles Grün oder Blau übergeht.

Dieses Modell kann auch gut als Drucktest verwendet werden. Die Kreisform in Verbindung mit dem Gewinde ermöglicht eine einfache Überprüfung der Maßhaltigkeit in X-, Y- und Z-Richtung.
