Educators:

Hi this is a very simple model of the mechanisms of an hidraulic shovel, the main important things you can show here are the kind of movement you can achieve with 4 bar mechanisms, the use of hidraulic forces to move the shovel and the case where there is a singularity in the mechanisms wich in this case exists when the sringe is completely retracted.

Materials:

  • 2 60ml Plastic sringes (the largest ones)
  • 1 Small tube to connect the sringes
  • Pair of tweezers
  • Glue
  • Water to fill the sringe

Instructions:

1.-  you will need to print 5 things:

  • Complete_sringe.stl
  • shovel.stl
  • spacer1.stl
  • spacer2.stl
  • eslabones.stl
  • rod.3mf x5

the rod is just a cylinder of 46 mm height and 5.6 mm wide, you will need 5 or you can use wooden sticks if it matches the radius

2.- Once you print the complete sringe you will need to glue 2 parts together as shown in the image.

3.- Cut the end of one of the sringes so it fits in the cross section of the top middle joint.

4.- Be sure to fill the sringes with water, just fill one and the other must be completely retracted

5.- Assemble the rest of the printing parts, be carefull to place the spacers where needed, the small one goes in the top part of the shovel and the big one goes in the middle joint as shown in the image in point 2 of this list.

6.- Once built you can cut off the excess material of the rods with the tweezers and print the optional cover.st file to make it look better, you will need 5
