Description

This is a simple heat vent for if you feel the need to put heatsinks on your R36S console and feel you need more airflow.

Includes a simple jig for marking a hole for the air. Or you could just drill a whole bunch of holes, up yo you.

Tools you may want / need…

  • Drill,
  • Flat file,
  • Marker pen / pen / pencil,
  • Stanley knife / box cutter / similar,
  • Some form of saw you can remove the blade (e.g. junior hacksaw or coping saw with suitable blade).
  • A suitable glue, superglue (CA glue or Cyanoacrylate glue).

Instructions…

  • Remove sticker,
  • Place jig on back of console,
  • Mark interior of jig with marker / pen of some kind,
  • Drill holes in corners or around markings (always drill with a piece of wood behind to prevent cracking & start with a small drill bit),
  • If you drilled holes in cornders, you can now use saw by disconnecting blade, passing through hole and reataching, otherwise ignore,
  • Once hole cut, remove saw, if necessary.
  • Use file to smooth out the edges of the newly cut / drilled hole,
  • Once the hole is filed suitably and no plastic is visible through the hexagons, move to gluing on the hexagon grid vent cover.
  • When placing on the vent cover, note position of the angled corner.

I hope this works for someone, I haven't honestly decided if I need to do this yet (mostly because I don't want to drill my R36s). But I have printed the parts. I put on the heatsinks as I had them already (they're Pi 2/3/3B+ RAM heatsink (as RAM was on the bottom of the board and still needd to fit in a case)).

These are stupid quick prints BTW, about 30 minutes total at 60mm/s, not counting heating and cooling time.

Please let me know if you need any further information / advice / changes to file.

Thanks to @johnny_668460 for https://www.printables.com/model/858062-r36s-console-nintendo-logo-for-backplate which confirmed my dimensions.

Yes, I put on the shoulder buttons, found here… https://www.printables.com/model/794361-r36s-shoulder-buttons (not the original designer, just re-uploaded).

And remember… Hegagons are the bestagons.
