Description

I needed something like a panel-latch for a not-a-voron. I was using RichardM's Voron 2.4 Filament Latch on my Voron. I thought about modding his for my purpose, but decided to re-implement it myself and make some improvements. Heavily influenced by RichardM's, but this one is print-in-place! So, no more filament hinges that break or fall out. I also reversed the latching mechanism to work more like a true draw-latch. RichardM's always seemed backwards to me.

Options in 0.5mm increments from 3.0mm to 8.5mm panel thickness and with or without the Voron logo are included.  Clip thickness is the measured offset from the extrusions, so if you have 3mm panels and 3mm foam, you likely want to use the 5.5mm clips in order to get 0.5mm squish. The ‘countersink’ version was for my not-a-voron. OpenSCAD sources are included for customization. 

Print with Voron part settings. No supports needed. They also seem to work fine for me just with the PrusaSlicer .2mm Quality preset. I was able to print them in PETG, ASA, and ABS without scaling. PLA is not recommended. Filled materials like Burnt Titanium ABS may also be too brittle.

Install with M3 SHCS (Socket-head cap screws) and M3 “hammerhead” t-slot nuts. M3x16 work well for 4.5mm to 6mm panel thickness latches. M3x12 work well for 3.5mm to 4mm panel thickness.

Note on multi-color printing as in the included photos: The assembly prints with the outer latch ‘open’. This is necessary to get the right latch clearance. So, if you change colors after the first or second layer, the outer latch will appear to be the wrong color when closed. This part is symmetric, so you can carefully pop it out and re-install it flipped. 

Note on building from source: You need to use an OpenSCAD development snapshot that has the Manifold backend enabled. OpenSCAD sources have been moved to panel-latch-scad.zip.  All latch scad files include panel-latch-common.scad; other dependencies have been removed.

Update 2026/01/31: Adjusted print-in-place clearance. 

Update 2026/02/16: Added 8.5mm variation.

Update 2026/03/30: Moved scad sources to panel-latch-scad.zip. Replaced decimal in filenames with underscore to avoid Printables mangling the filenames. Reorganized scad sources to use fewer dependencies.

Update 2026/04/10: Fixed issue with curves looking segmented.
