Coming from the DIY printer world, I am not a big fan of the automatic belt tensioners on the Plus4. I desire too much control. So, I made new mounts and an insert to replace them with adjustable ones. I printed a single one as a concept and immediatly saw its impact when running a Klippian Shake and Tune Belt Comparison Test. Once having both installed, not only was the belt comparison cleaned up a ton but the input shaper was just as tidy while reporting significantly higher accelerations.

 

Pre-Assembly Notes:

  • DO NOT PRINT OUT OF PLA! I printed mine out of PA6-CF20. ABS/ASA may be acceptable as well.
  • If you are interested in using Klippian Shake and Tune on your Plus4, and user by the name of Stew675 hs made a fork for us to use. You can find it with instructions here
  • This is still a WIP. I think the concept is on but I expect some updates and revisions. Your opinions and inputs are very much appreciated. However, please come with hard data. “I feel like” is not hard data. 
  • Be aware and pay attention when removing the stock tensioners. They are spring loaded so things can go flying fast and far.
  • The inserts are threaded for M4 .7 screws. I have printed some where the screw hand tightens in, and some that were so tight I had to chase them with a tap. Either way, keep in mind, no matter what you print it with, it is still plastic. Be aware of when the screw bottoms out, if you go too far, it will blow out the bottom. Don't rush.
  • I have a belt tension meter. You can print one or buy one. There are many of both to choose from. The most important part is that the belts are the same tension (which is why I don't like the springs)

    Hardware required:
    x1 - M4 x 35mm (socket or button head; could probably get away with 30mm)
    x1 - M4 nut
    x2 - M3 x 16mm Button head screws

UPDATE 10/19/2024 08:21PM EST - I shortened the insert piece so it does not apply any tension to the pully during initial installation. The previous longer insert piece is no more. My appologies if this causes any reprints so quickly.
