Description
This is a PTFE tube guide with a few sizing options. The guide was created as I wasn't happy with the other similar tube guides out there.
The tube guide was created with a few guidelines in mind:
This tube guide meets all the must haves and only misses on one of the should haves.
There are a few variations for download. The radius is the bend radius of the pipe, you want to go as big here as you can fit in the space. The smaller the bend radius the more friction is caused to the filament passing through the pipe. Both of the 40mm and 50mm variants still perform well with most filaments.
The degree is the angle of the ends of the tube. Larger the degree, the more the guide tries to bend the tube. In my testing I found that more isn't always more though. For example the toolhead guide I settled on is the 90 degree one. The 110 degree guide ended up bending the pipe less since there is more force pushing the tube upwards causing the tube to bend at the end of the guide instead. So try out variations to see what works best for your use case.
If you need variations that aren't available you can just tweak the cad model directly on OnShape
The model isn't all that sensitive to print settings, but here are my recommendations:
Neither the walls or layer height matter all that much, the whole part is going to end up being solid and the tolerances are forgiving due to the geometry. Supports are required thought, I generally prefer custom supports for my parts if I can't avoid supports. In this case the slicer generated supports are significantly faster, more reliable and use less material.
There are a lot of these kinds of designs out there. If my model doesn't fit your needs, check them out as well:
