Description

Since the PRUSA Accelerometer does not have to be permanently connected to the printer and recalibration the Input Shaper is only necessary if modifications are made to the printer, I looked for a way to store the accelerometer safely. For this I used the popular parametric Rugged Box from Whity and then came across the accelerometer (with cover for MK4/S, MK3.9/S) insert from NusseIt, whose idea (and most of the dimensions) I used.

The insert is a perfect fit for the accelerometer housing for the MK4/S, MK3.9/S. When closed, the housing sits firmly in the case (approx. 1 millimeter tolerance in height). The serial number sticker can also be adhered.

NFC? Yes, optional.

The “base” of the insert in the lid has a small NFC tag (12x19 millimeters) on which a link to the Accelerometer user manual is saved. Why? Simply because you can. If you want to do it too, you can simply pause printing, stick the NFC tag in the recess and continue printing.

Variations of the lid:

The lid is available with 2½ different logo variants: Completely without logo, with multicolor logo (multimaterial and single material, see printing tips below) and a “layered logo”. The last of these can be printed as normal, but the 0.2 mm difference still creates an eye-catching logo on the lid.

Variations of the inlays:

Both inlays come in several variants: The lower insert is available with and without a recess for the serial number sticker. The inlay for the lid is available with and without an NFC tag and the latter is also available with and without an NFC logo. The inlays have a tolerance of 0.08mm and therefore a tight fit. If it is too tight, use the XY compensation.

Variation of the latches:

The latches can be mounted at the top or bottom and keep the box securely closed. The “lip” is small, but sufficient to open the latches easily without tearing off your fingernail. ;-) Variations: Without pattern or with hexagon pattern (with 0.4mm and 0.6mm depth).

What you need:

6 M3 screws are required for the box, or alternatively small rods. The length is exactly 30 millimeters. I re-drilled the holes with a 3 mm drill - it holds just as well and ensures that nothing breaks when screwed in.

Print settings:

Nothing special for case, lid, hinges and latches. Printing is easy and should work with any nozzle and any layer height, but I suggests a layer height of 0.2 mm. Supports are not absolutely necessary, but I have used them for the large PRUSA font and the RESEARCH frame.

The multimaterial inlets (letters, frame and NFC logo) have no tolerance. Here you should use the XY compensation of the PrusaSlicer. Depending on how well your printer is adjusted, between -0.05 and -0.2mm (for me it was -0.075mm).

  • Inlets for the lid: The STL is mirrored so that the lid and logo have the same first layer surface. ;-) The height of the  letters is reduced by 0.2mm to allow for the bridges (lid recess 1.2mm, letters 1.0mm). Tip: Print several XY versions at once and use the modifiers.
  • NFC logo: The height is identical to the recess, as the Z-height is actually almost identical. STL not mirrored, to match the top surface.

Sure: Printing the case in multiple colors without an MMU can be a little bit annoying, but it's better than printing it in one color. :-)

Wanna say thank you? 🙏
