Description

A swirly witch hat that prints in vase mode. Mostly meant to be decorative; the outer diameter of the brim is 17 cm, so it's a bit too small to be a proper hat.

I want to do a smaller version of this, and another variation or two with fun patterns, so keep an eye out.

For this version, there's a couple options: an open bottom, a closed bottom, and two thicknesses of ‘straps’, which will look something like this when sliced:

How to Print:

Print in spiral vase mode! (In PrusaSlicer: Print Settings > Layers and perimeters > Vertical Shells > Spiral vase)

Very important: You want to print with 0.12mm of bottom layers; that's 6 bottom layers if you're printing at 0.2mm layer height. (Print Settings > Layers and perimeters > Horizontal shells) This won't print correctly otherwise!

This can be printed in PLA or PETG. It will be stronger with a larger nozzle size, but was designed to work with a standard-sized (0.4mm) nozzle. For that, I recommend printing at a slightly larger line width, e.g. 0.45 mm.

Optional: Change Print Settings > Infill > Infill > Top Fill Pattern to Archimedean Chords

Flexing the hat brim too much may break it, although I've built in a couple things to make it more resistant to breaking.
