Description
A very easy to print mod for 40mm christmas baubles/ordnaments to turn them into the Golden Snitch from the Harry Potter movies.
Print both parts from PLA at 0.15 mm layer hight with 4 perimeters.
You will need a hairdryer or heat gun for this as well, as the wings and bauble atachment points are designed to be printed flat and then gently heated to be bend into their final shape.
For the bauble atachment its easiest to put it onto the bauble/ornament and then heat it gently before bending the atachment points down to conform with the shape of the bauble.
For the wings itself I found it easiest to take a large bowl and attach the wings with a bit of tape to the outside of the bowl. Choose a spot with the amount of bend you want the wings to have. Then just heat the wings up till they conform to the bowl and let them cool down. Of course you can also freehand the shape.
Depending on the wing shape you end up with you will propaply need to add a litte weight into the bauble to get it balanced and hanging right again. I used some tiny steel balls I had laying around for mine.
Here is also a link to the exact ornaments/baubles I used for this: https://www.amazon.de/Christmas-Decorations-Weihnachtskugeln-Kunststoff-4cm-Gold/dp/B008IHLWZ4/
I haven't tried it, but scaling all parts up proportionately should make this fit any larger baubles/ornaments as well.
