Description

This tray fits a pair of common drilling jigs used to prepare fasteners for use with safety wire aka lockwire.  It accepts jig part number 6061B from Aircraft Tool Supply, and also a Saf-T-Blok jig manufactured by MTE Industries.  Both of these jigs are readily available from several vendors.  I included recesses for the drill bits which come with the ATS jig, for use if you have enough vertical space in the drawer where you are keeping it, otherwise put them with the rest of your drills.  They are just regular #53 and #33 drills. There are also recesses for the drill bushings/nuts used with the jig.

One thing I have always found ironic, is that these jigs are sold by aircraft tool suppliers, and marketed to aircraft mechanics, even though it's arguably a very bad idea to modify fasteners which will be used on aircraft, by drilling holes in them.  It's better by far to buy the correct fastener that was manufactured with the holes already in place.  That said, these jigs are still very useful if you want to use safety wire on things that are not aircraft, which is how I have used them.

Like my other Gridfinity models, the base is altered to accept 6x3 magnets as a press fit, with the upper surface of the magnet holes modified to make the slicer bridge across correctly for a clean result.  Due to the size of this model, I have included sacrificial “mouse ears” in the CAD to give the ends more surface area to help prevent them warping off the bed.  These will need to be removed after printing.

The unit pictured was printed out of Polymaker ABS on my Voron 2.4, using a 0.6mm nozzle, at 0.3mm layer height.
