Description

This box gives  storage for seven fully assembled Nextruders (incl. nozzle,,heat pill", thermistor, heatblock, silicone sock). I liked the idea of @dteng and modified it to my needs. I extended it to fit onto the top edge of the Original Prusa Enclosure (OPE) and added a lot of different tags that now can be arranged in tree but two rows.

The Storagebox attaches magnetically to the top of the side (or where ever you want) of the original Prusa Enclosure. The 10x5mm round N52 magnets stand off a bit intentionally so that they do not interfere with the offstanding bolt heads of the OPE (the surface of the OPE is not completely flat because of them).

You need up to 10 pieces of 10x5mm round N52 magnets (Amazon link). If you have really strong magnets  7 of those magnets may be enough. Just try out by setting not all magnets in the first place but  ad them one after the other. I recommend starting with two in the first column at the left and two at the outmost right column and one in the top row in the middle. Ad more if you don't feel the model is attached securely enough with this magnet pattern.

The magnets are glued into their slots with some superglue, because they sit in very flat groves that indicate the correct position of the magnets. They are not deep enough to hold the magnets by snapping in.

The magnets intentionally do not stick  deeply in the holes to keep them stand off far enough not to interfere with the hex bolt heads of the OPE. Thus you need glue.

The tags are interchangeable and three of them fit into each slot above each other:

  1. Row:      DIAMETER :   0,25, 0,40, 0,60, 0,80
  2. Row:      MATERIAL  :  Brass, Obxidian, Steel, Ruby
  3. Row:      FLOW          :  Normal flow, High flow

The tag set contains one blank tag, you write what ever you like on

Printing instructions:

I printed everything in PETG because some flexibility is necessary.

The Main body prints with 0,4mm nozzle, 4 perimeters, 25% infill adaptive cubic,  you better use some organic supports (see picture) for cleaner edges. I Uses MMU for Colored Text on top. I did this by changing extruder at layer 283. This might be done without MMU by changing filament at that layer. But most of you may have an MMU I guess. This was printed on my PRUSA MK4 MMU3 with image shaping (before upgrading to MK4S).

If you have good bed adhesion you may print WITHOUT SUPPORTS. This alternate File was printed with MK4S/MMU3  EMMS, variable layer height and ironing of the top most layer (Text). It does not uses supports and comes off fine in my case.

The TAGS should be printed with 0,25mm nozzle, because of better clarity of letters. This was printed on my MK3.5 with MMU3. Just didn't want to change Nozzle on the MK4.

A practical hint for marking extruder types:

If you use colored slicone socks like these , what I highly recommend. You may find them on Ali express as well. You can write text on either of both long sides of those socks. I suggest using the color-code of E3D REVO that became kind of standard for the nozzle size socks.

To mark the socks with nozzle size and material I used EDDING permanent markers (like Sharpy) with  0,8mm / 0,75mm fine tips in black ink  for all colored socks or white ink for black socks). I wrote the nozzle size on one, and the material on the other long side of the silicone sock. The ink of those markers withstands the printing heat and stays visible as it seeps a bit into the silicone material. The original tiny laser engraved text on the side of the extruder tubes is hardly to read (for my eyes at least) especially when the nozzles are mounted to the heat block.

If you have more than 7 Nextruders in use, just print another 7-piece holder.  It fits behind the first one  on the same side of the ope. The off-standing magnets make it sit tight on the sides of the OPE despite of bolt heads.

I designed it with 10 of those 10x5mm round N52 on the back side, but this seems to be a bit of an overkill in practice. You may try with 7 magnets in the beginning and ad more if they are not strong enough for you. On most right and most left side put two magnets  (top and lower position) on the mount. Between those double sets only use the upper row of magnets at first.

For storage of the tags that are not in use, I had this left over bolt/nut set box with 10 compartments, but you can use the pocket on the top side of the mount as well.
Here are examples of useful  boxes for this you can buy on Amazon.  For 21 tags or for 10 tags (Amazon links).

This model is part of my External MMUS Mounting System Project  (EMMS). You will find the same files with less detailed description there as well.
