Mars 4 Ultra flip up cover mod

Disclaimer 

This mod requires you to cut the original top cover, it will never seal as good as original (I have my printer in enclosure so I can regulate temperature there) and Elegoo prices this cover for 90 USD so if you decide to do it, do it with care. I can't be responsible for your actions and results.

Hardware needed

10x M3 heat insert 

4x M3x20mm flat head bolts (mounting legs to the printer)

8x M3x8mm flat head bolts (mounting cover to legs and hinge)

2x M3x8mm bolts with countersunk head (mounting hinge to the cover)

2x M5x35mm flat head bolts with round head(star or hex head to use as hinge)

3.5mm drill

Handheld metal saw and fresh blade

Printing

PETG, 25% plus infill, 4 plus walls, without supports

Print two legs(one as mirror) and one hinge

Assembly 

Unscrew two topmost screws on back cover of the printer on both sides and screw in legs

Test M5 holes in hinge with bolt and screw them all the way and out before assembly, then mount it between legs.

Push everything down, hinge and top cover and trace inside lines of legs and hinge to the cover. Mark screw holes and mark top contour of hinge piece.

I have used masking tape here and mark my cut lines, you can see offsets on photo (25mm sides, 6mm top)

I have used classic handheld metal saw for most cuts and finished them with just fresh blade without installing it into the saw frame.

Clean edges with sandpaper, drill 3.5mm holes for screws, put hinge piece to the place, that's why you traced it on cover and mark screw holes from inside and drill them too, you will need to countersunk two middle ones because they can interfere with z assembly of the printer. I also glued this piece to the place with two part epoxy glue for added strength.

Clean everything, wipe it with IPA and mount everything to the printer.

Now when you need to open it, you just lift the cover up and when it's in the topmost position, flip it back. 

You are done.
