Tap Holder

This is a desktop or workshop tap holder, designed specifically to be used for a ferrous worktable.  

Unlike many similar available designs, removable inserts control the diameter, so that multiple sizes and quantities can be used, without the fear of being “locked-in” to a simple “block with pre-set holes”.  Although this design had taps in mind, it could be used to hold end mills, reamers, or virtually any other cylindrical tool bit.  

The specific design was to accommodate automotive taps in the common sizes of M6, M8, M10, M12, M14 for quick access, and to protect the sharp thread ends. Each hole is 62mm deep, so if a specific depth is required, simple cylindrical inserts could allow for a shorter depth.

The HOLDER is a 2-piece design that fits together after printing.  This was done mainly for FFF printing orientation and to better accommodate the area where magnets are inserted.  

Although technically they are optional, I found that the neodymium magnets I used (60 x 10 x 5) help hold the entire base to a table or bench.  This prevents the taps or tools to pull the entire unit off the table when removing.

IMPORTANT FOR PRINTING:
If you are printing the inserts FFF, the “fuzzy skin” feature is recommended for the outermost face for each (depth 0.1mm).  This allows for grip on the sides of the cylinder wall, so that the insert is “secure” inside the hole without the insert coming out.  Tool relief areas are provided in the base to pry the inserts out to change or replace, depending on your needs.
