Technical Design for Surround Sound Systems

This advanced design offers a practical and efficient solution for mounting rear or satellite speakers in surround sound configurations. It is specifically engineered to maximize acoustic performance by incorporating precise angles: 30° vertical tilt and 45° horizontal tilt to either the left or right. This configuration ensures an immersive audio experience, tailored to the requirements of advanced technologies like Dolby Atmos® or 5.1 surround sound systems.

Design Overview and Functionality

The design consists of three distinct components, each with a specific function:

Angle adjustment bases:

  • These two components fix the vertical tilt at 30° and are available in two variations to achieve a 45° horizontal tilt to either the left or right.
  • The left and right bases are designed to hold the speakers in an optimal orientation for accurate sound dispersion.

Speaker support base:

  • This component securely holds the speaker using its rear mounting mechanism while resting on the base for additional stability.
  • The support design ensures even weight distribution, minimizing vibrations that could impact sound quality and device stability.

For a complete setup, two copies of the speaker support base must be printed—one for each speaker. Additionally, print one left-angle base and one right-angle base to properly align the speakers on either side of the bed.

The mounts are designed to be held in place by the weight of the bed’s headboard, allowing for a non-invasive installation. For added security, users have the option to secure the mounts with screws through the back of the headboard, ensuring stability in various furniture setups.

Technical Specifications

This design balances functionality, safety, and ease of installation. Below are the key technical details:

Tilt Angles:

  • Vertical: 30°.
  • Horizontal: 45° to the left and 45° to the right.

Compatibility:

  • Optimized for rear speakers from the Samsung HW-Q70/ZS 5.1 soundbar system but easily adaptable to other models by modifying the speaker base in the digital file.

Assembly Method:

  • The components are securely joined using a small amount of cyanoacrylate adhesive (e.g., Loctite 401). However, other quick-drying super glues are equally suitable.

3D Printing Materials and Parameters

The mounts were created using 3D printing technology, allowing for precise manufacturing and customization. The production parameters are as follows:

Primary Material:

  • Opaque black PLA, chosen for its structural strength, lightweight properties, and professional finish. PLA is also ideal for reducing vibrations and is easy to assemble post-printing.

Printing Parameters:

  • Nozzle: 0.8 mm, selected for efficient and fast printing without compromising detail.
  • Layer Height:
    • 0.3 mm for the speaker support bases, prioritizing precise detail in these critical components.
    • 0.4 mm for the angle adjustment bases, optimizing production time without sacrificing durability.

Acoustic Optimization and Strategic Positioning

The 30° vertical and 45° horizontal tilt angles were chosen based on optimal acoustic configurations for standard room setups. These angles allow sound to be directed precisely toward the primary listening area, minimizing dispersion and enhancing the clarity of mid and high frequencies. The positioning also improves the depth and spatial quality of the sound, critical for surround sound systems like Dolby Atmos®.

By keeping the speakers firmly mounted and fixed in place, this design ensures both acoustic stability and consistent audio quality, preventing any shifts or movements that could detract from the listening experience.

Structural Safety and Accident Prevention

Safety was a key consideration in the design. The primary mounting method leverages the weight of the headboard for secure placement, eliminating the need for drilling or invasive modifications. For users requiring additional stability, the design includes the option to reinforce the setup with a screw at the back of the headboard.

In environments prone to seismic activity or significant vibrations, such as regions with frequent tectonic movement, this dual-fixation system provides a reliable solution to prevent accidents or damage to the speakers.
