Description
I made some quality of life changes to the original design to get to this Version 2. The arms no longer interlock, making it much easier to assemble. To address some durability issues, I changed the arms to a double stack 8mm T700 carbon, replacing the 3 stack 5mm T300 carbon. I shortened the arms and moved the motors a little closer together to bring the overall footprint down a bit.
I originally had the top and bottom plates cut from 4.7mm (0.187") 304 Series Stainless Steel, but the fully assembled frame was about 50g over spec weight. Next I ordered 3.2mm (0.125") versions to mix and match. With one 4.7mm and one 3.2mm plate, a fully assembled frame was about 30g under weight. You can decide whether you would prefer more weight at the center with a thicker top plate, or want to balance the battery weight by having the heavier plate on the bottom.
The 5mm holes on the top plate need to be tapped to m5x0.8 threads. There are two versions of the file. One has the holes sized at 5mm assuming that you are going to have the shop that's cutting the plate also tap the holes. The other has the holes sized at 4mm so that they can be drilled to 4.2mm and tapped by hand. I thought that it would be cheaper to self drill and tap the holes, but it is time consuming and can be more expensive if you tend to get in a rush and break a tap ;)
