Name Tower - With All 26 Letters - For Illumination from Inside

December 25, 2024
Description
This is my design for a stackable letter tower that can (and should) be illuminated from the inside. It is a two-color print, with one color forming the shell (or frame) and the second—preferably transparent—creating the fill. The set includes all 26 letters and two socket variants, allowing you to print any word or name you like.
- The design can be printed in a single color or multiple colors.
- The walls are intentionally thick, so the model can be scaled up or down.
- No supports are required for printing.
- It works well with PLA, PETG, or other filaments, and even with a mix of different materials.
Print Notes
All 3MF files are pre-oriented correctly and do not require supports. Use the recommended settings and profiles for your printer and filament.
Assembly and How to Install Lights
The caps include a hole where a wire can be attached. The idea is for this wire to run through all the letters to the socket. The socket features a hook to secure and tension the wire, keeping the letter stack firmly together.
For the lights, use micro LED Christmas light wires. The socket has a hole for the LED cable. To avoid soldering, simply thread the LED wire through the hole.
Next, wind the wire around a stick (e.g., a wooden spoon) to form a spring-like shape. When attaching the wire to the cap, also secure the end of the LED wire so it remains inside this “spring.” Ensure the LEDs are evenly distributed inside all the letters.
About the Prints in the Photos
The metallic filament prints use “3DJAKE mysteryPLA Epic Thunderstorm” for the frame and “Prusament Vanilla White” for the fill.
The white letters use “Extrudr PLA NX-2 White” for the frame and “colorFabb PLA / PHA Violet Transparent” for the fill.
