Description

This is  a heated filament feed box that can hold two typical 1kg filament spools.  It should accomodate most, if not all, 1 kg spools commonly used.   This design requires use of  a large printer to accomodate a 250mm x 150mm footprint.  I printed mine with a Qidi X-Max3 using ASA filament.  I added anti-warp tabs on each corner, merging them with the model at time of slicing to help avoid warping.  A heated chamber is probably needed to also assist in avoiding warping during the print.

ETA 12/26/2024:  I just noticed the above link is currently showing a 400w unit.  It would require a larger opening. The opening in the model is sized for the 200w version.  Alternative versions may be available on Amazon if you search.

Rollers for the spools use two type 608 RS bearings per roller.  Print two halves for each roller and join them using the dowel model.  

Roller mounts in the box accommodate using either one roller through the spool center, or two rollers at the bottom on which the spool rotates. The single roller makes for less drag but can permit the spool to over-rotate & allow excess material to unspool.  The two bottom roller configuration helps add a bit of drag & reduce that potential.

View ports on top and sides will need sheets of acrylic or polycarbonate.  I cut the needed shapes from 8"x10" sheets (sold for use with picture frames).  I included screw holes to permit use of M3 screws, but used CA glue for my own assembly.  

The 10mm holes in the top lid components are intended for use with 10mm pneumatic fittings to hold a short length of bowden tubing.

The two bottom sections are to be joined using M3 screws (and nuts if needed).  The hinges joining top and bottom component have 2mm holes.  You can either use 2mm rod stock or a length of filament for hinge assembly.
