Description

The Nukit Lantern 222nm Far-UVC Light from @Nukit_2466521 is the least expensive independently verified Far-UVC lamp on the market, and comes with a handy mm-wave occupancy sensor to prolong the lamp's life by automatically turning the light off when the room is empty. This “case”  holds the occupancy sensor neatly on the front for use either on a table top (not recommended by the manufacturer) or with the Lantern's included ¼-20 threaded wall mount.

You can find the source CAD for this and related models at Onshape:

  • This model: Lantern Sensor Case with Cover
  • Model of Nukit Lantern and sensor (based on my measurements)
  • Model of Nukit Torch (based on my measurements)

Update:

  • 2024-12-27:
    • Added STL for a cover for the top. After carrying these around in my bag over the holidays, I realized that the front glass filter really does need to be protected.
    • Split CAD into multiple files

Two file versions:

  • Default version with smooth face that covers the Lantern's power button. The button is redundant when using the sensor.
  • Alternate version with a hole for those who still want access to the main power button.

The provided 3mf project includes the default version with:

  • Tree supports for steep overhangs.
  • Increased infill in the area below the lamp's threaded insert to reduce the shell flexing if you really tighten the mounting screw.

Assembly:

  • If you are using the default version with a smooth face, first make sure the physical power button on the Lantern is set to “on” (you won't be able to access it after assembly).
  • Thread the sensor power wires through the lower hole in the case, starting with the larger female connector.
  • Maneuver the sensor's screw attachment tab into the hole near the top of the case and press gently on the lower section of the sensor to until it clicks in place. There is plenty of clearance or the wires, but be careful just in case.
  • Pull the wires out the back of the case while also bending them flat against the bottom of the case “gutter.” This is very fiddly but necessary because I kept the clearance small to allow for better engagement with the ¼-20 threaded mounting hole). Please be careful not to put too much stress on the wires/connections as you flatten them.
  • Once you have the wires as flat as possible, insert your Lantern into the case and plug in the power wire to hold everything in place.
  • Add a zip or velcro tie on the back to keep the power wires tidy.
