Description

Model

To prevent fast dry out of your started silicone/acrylic cartouche print this cap and screw it onto your cartouche.

The cap has a conic inside to close the opening better as just a plain cap.

Printing instructions

I used PLA but PETG should work too.

  • Perimeters: 2
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Infill: 20% Archimedic
  • Top solid layers: 4
  • Bottom solid layers: 5

Version 2

Dec, 15: There are now two step files available. The v2 version has an additional chamfer, which is not necessary but makes it easier to screw the cap on.

Version 3

Dec, 21: Now you can download also Version 3 of the cap! Thanks to the suggestion of @Fatalbugchec_1210119 there is now a chamfer on the top which makes a nicer look. Additionally I tuned the inside hole a bit so that there is now also a conical outside in line with the thread. This will hopefully reduce the possible air flow to the cartridge content even more.

The according files ends with “-v3”

Version 4

Jan, 2: For all which have trouble that the cap is not strong enough, here is the version 4. This version has two more layers at the closed side of the cap and a slightly bigger diameter (one perimeter) to have an bigger adhesion between the top of the cap and the rest.

For version 4 the recommended print settings are:

  • Perimeters: 3
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Infill: 20% Archimedic
  • Top solid layers: 4
  • Bottom solid layers: 6

The according files ends with “-v4”

Version 5

Jan, 9: After some research and a lot of tests the result is version 5, a complete redesign. It is much stronger than all versions before. The thread has some kind of end-stop now and is fully closed in the area which is unused. There are now two additional bottom layers which helps with stability.

I was able to deform the PLA printed cap a little bit but it didn't crack. Even with massive force the thread of the silicone cartridge eventually got damaged but the cap was still good.

For best results your cartridge should be cut even at the end of the thread. For the strongest version I recommend PETG as material to print.

  • Perimeters: 3
  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm
  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Infill: 20% Archimedic
  • Top solid layers: 4
  • Bottom solid layers: 6

The according files ends with “-v5”

Happy printing!

PS: Please leave a like, a comment with your feedback or a photo of your make! I don't get paid for my work and the feedback is what keeps me running :-) Compared with the effort of designing and testing your own model this hopefully isn't asked to much.

And a big thank you to all of you who already comment, liked and rated this model!

A big thank you for Farbenzentrum Schlegel from Bad Schussenried for the support of this model.

You will find this model and a ton more useful models from me on makerworld and of course here on printables.

If you are in need of a drain pipe cover for your project look here or here.

I also made a really good working joint smoothing tool!
