A case that can be printed in 3 parts (plus a stop button) allowing convenient mounting of the controller on a flat surface. There are many cases for this controller, but none that did exactly what I wanted. I got inspiration from https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1562144 but it is designed to be picked up rather than attached to a surface.
I also used (and have included) the STL from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:302196 as the basis for designing the case.
UPDATE: After printing and assembling this thing, I think there are some improvements that could be made:
- The Smart Controller that I have has the screen PCB mounted a couple of mm closer to the main board which, so I would make the screen surround to be slightly more flush.
- There was also not quite enough clearance under the rotary button, but I just pulled the button cap up slightly to fix that. If the top was more flush with the PCB, that may solve this issue too.
- The pillar that holds the screws wasn't strong enough and broke when I overtightened the screw the connects the end caps together. I fixed that by friction welding the end cap back on. I think if I wanted to print another one I would update the design so that the end caps just clicked on rather than screwed together.
- The original model of the controller board didn't have the through hole components protruding on the back of the board, so I neglected to make allowance for them. This is potentially a problem with the rotary button that has quite large through hole tabs. I just snipped the tab that was a problem a bit closer to the board and it actually is good for it to press against the bottom of the mount to give it a firm feel when you click it.
