Description
Heyho :)
I had some glasses printed for a party this year. I didn't like the poor fit, rattiness or the fact that most of the models kept falling off or breaking quickly.
That's why I sat down and designed my own. This one is designed for FDM printing and doesn't need any extra parts or reworking.
Customization:
You can print the lenses with the infill of your choice! I recommend not choosing a pattern that is too dense so that you can still see well :D 15 - 20% is usually enough!
To see the infill only set the Top and Bottom Layers to 0!
Temples:
Version 0: No hinges.
This version is if you don't want the glasses stuffed away by all the people or attatched to the collar :D The benefit is that the glasses are passed around a lot more by the guests :)
Version 1: Print in Place.
Here you can simply print the temples and mount them as usual.
The assembly is a little easier if you put a little kerosene on the click mechanism. To press in, it helps to fold down the bracket so as not to press directly onto the 3D printed axle.
You can scale this version with the glasses. But If you scale them down they might get very weak.
Version 2: Pin in place :)
Here you can simply take a piece of 1.75 mm filament and use it as an axis.
You can do that before or after you clicked the click mechanism in the main frame part.
Scalability:
You can also scale the glasses to make them fit even better! But this skalability is limited by your printer's tolerances & nozzle size.
Printing tipps:
I used PLA/ PETG, 3 Perimeter, 20% infill with the temples and 40% Infill with the main body. Glow in the Dark will look cool too! If you have problems with breaking parts you can also use tougher materials like PETG.
Avoid a Seam at the contact points to the skin and the connection :)
Assembly:
All parts are designed for a stable press fit.
To simplify this process, you can apply some candle wax to the locking mechanism to make insertion easier. The brackets still lock very firmly.
2. Finish the installation at the bottom until you hear a good old click.
// If you have trouble inserting them you can use a good old heavy tool D:
3. Add the Temples.
Again. If you have trouble:
You are ready to party!
Heat it up :)
You can also heat the end of the frame up to fit it even better to your geometry. Use a heat gun or carefully use a lighter.
Have fun and a happy new year! :)
