Description
This locator template is to help precisely install Peterson Series II All-Electric organ pipe valves. I'm building from plans a popular 20-note busker organ that will be MIDI-controlled, and bought a set of their valves direct from Peterson in the USA. Many people recommend the Peterson company and their products - they are indeed an excellent business to buy from.
The valves come with felt pads to seal the air outlet holes, lifted by activating the electro-magnet in response to a MIDI command. One screw secures the valves, which must be located precisely on the wind chest to operate correctly and avoid leaks. There are two teeth on the mounting foot that dig into the board to keep the valve in place and stop it from turning. When ordering the valves I didn't realise how tricky obtaining that precision would be - which is why Peterson sell a tool to help with the job.
So I designed a simple template, which I can position accurately and then use a centre punch to mark the board the valves will sit on. Centre-punching to mark the hole for the screw, and to prepare for the two teeth, ensures the felt valve pallet will sit squarely over the air outlet hole.
All the measurements for this model are fixed to the dimensions of Peterson's Series II valve - apart from two that the user needs to alter if required:
Other parameters can be changed if preferred, for example the thickness of the base, the amount of overhang outside the holes for the ‘teeth’, and more.
I've included .stl files for various sizes of air outlet holes and centre punch. The sizes are in the file names.
