Description

A small plastic nose had broken off the battery cover of my beloved, older 300 mm caliper. So I designed a new one in FreeCAD.

This is a battery cover for a digital caliper design with a SR44 button cell.
This 3D model is as close as possible to the original design. However, I have optimized it for printability and durability.
The model was designed with an FDA printer in mind, as probably very few people own an SLA resin printer.

Lid dimensions:

  • Width : 15.2 mm
  • Depth : approx. 20 mm

My Print recommendations

I used PETG filament. The small clips on the lid held very well for me. The wall thickness towards the battery is thin. Therefore, if you are printing with a 0.4 mm diameter nozzle, I recommend setting the perimeter generator to Classic Mode instead of using the newer Arachne Mode. For me, at least on my MK3, the Arachne mode leads to holes with such thin walls.
An initially white printed cover didn't match so well with the black of the original case in my opinion. The transparent look looked more interesting to me. But as always, that's a matter of taste.

Minimum requirements for the print settings:

  • Material:                                  PETG (dry the filament if the print is too stringy)
  • Nossle:                                     0,4 mm
  • Layer Hight:                            0.20 mm
  • Infill:                                         100%
  • Perimeter:                               4
  • Avoid crossing perimeters:  yes
  • Perimeter Generator:            Classic
  • Support:                                   yes, For support enforcers only
  • Support Style:                         Organic / Tree Support

Happy 😊 creating usefull stuff 👍

  • Initial release
24. January 2025
  • Added 3MF and GCode for Prusament PETG filament with increased bed and nozzle temperatures. The bed adhesion should have been improved, thanks to @ChrisStevens for his tip.
