GSX-8R/8S Flip-Up USB-C Charging Socket

I didn't like the fiddly silicone cap that came with the weatherproof USB-C ports I ordered from Aliexpress for this https://www.printables.com/model/1111435-gsx-8r8s-usb-c-charging-socket , so I've created an alternate USB port that flips out and provides some weather resistance using an O-Ring. This feels way more satisfying, though functionally it is the same.

In addition, two 6mm x 3mm (diameter, height) neodymium magnets keep the flap closed when not in use, squeezing the o-ring slightly since the attraction force is stronger when they are closer, while not squeezing with enough force when fully open to damage the port or cable connected to it.

Once again, I recommend printing in PETG for superior UV resistance and toughness over PLA.

For the 5V Regulator Board (Lm2596) case and list of connectors that connect to the OEM wiring harness, refer to the original model.

Additional Parts:

• The USB connector comes from the aliexpress panel-mount ports above, I just removed the plastic housing they came in using side cutters and a utility knife (carefully).
• two 6mm (diameter) x 3mm (height) neodymium magnets
• #240 O-Ring (¾ inch Outer Diameter, 5/8 inch Inner Diameter, 1/16 inch Thickness)

Notes:

• The backplate can be a little flimsy until glued. Be careful handling it, as the little registration tabs can break off until glued to the housing.
• a 1.75mm piece of filament is used as a hinge. You'll likely need to drill the holes on the printed parts a little bit to get them to fit perfectly and to swivel smoothly. I used a 2mm plastic model drill bit and a Tamiya Handy Drill for this since it's very low RPM, though a regular cordless drill is probably fine.
• Mind your order of operations- once the swiveling bit's hinges are attached and glued, it's likely impossible to install the USB connector / route cables / install magnets.
• I recommend gluing the O-Ring to the channel in swivelHousing so it doesn't accidentally slide off. There is a channel in there for it, but it feels a lot more secure with it glued into the channel.
