Description
Expanding on the space-efficient socket holders I previously posted, I've now created a set of holders specifically designed for deep impact sockets! If you're curious why some sizes are skipped, it's because these are the sizes included in the socket set I own.
I have included files with the socket holders split so they can be printed on a 220mm x 220mm print bed. If you plan to print these split models, I strongly suggest printing the “Impact Dovetail Test Print” file first to ensure your printer’s tolerances will allow for assembly. If the tolerances are too tight when you print the dovetail test, you won't be able to assemble the final models. Please save yourself some filament and print this test model first! If you're unable to assemble the dovetail test print, spend some time tuning your printer before printing the socket holders. I designed these with a 0.2mm tolerance, so a reasonably well-tuned printer should be capable of printing them successfully. The dovetail test print doubles as a bit holder, so you can still get some use out of it.
The hole sizes are 1mm larger in diameter than my Craftsmen deep impact sockets. Sockets from other manufacturers may be too large to fit. I'd hate for anyone to waste hundreds of grams of filament printing the holders only to find out their sockets don't fit! I strongly suggest printing the hole test print files for both metric and imperial to ensure your sockets will fit. It only takes about 40g of filament to print both hole test files.
The labels are printed separately and glued onto the socket holders. I was able to print them with a 0.4mm nozzle and a 0.2mm layer height. I changed filament color after layer 3 (0.6mm).
Print Settings:
I was having issues with the corners warping, so I used a skirt with 10 lines and a distance of 0.0mm. I chose this method instead of a brim because it eliminates the brim between the grid lines. If you are concerned about warping or experiencing similar issues, you might want to give this a try.
