Description

Inspired by a model seen on PrusaPrinters made by diealtebremse. Designed from the ground up to provide faster assembly and a better final product. This is a Hexagon Shelf System made with imperial wood and 3D printed brackets that can be assembled in many custom configurations such as singular hexagons, unlimited honeycombs, and long hexagon strands. One hex is 12.64" wide 3.65" deep and 10.67" tall.

Instructions

Draw what configuration you want your hex shelf to be in first. You can have single hexagons separated and spread out, or you can cluster all of the hexagons together in whatever configuration you want. Draw out your desired configuration first, and then use this to count how many inner and outer brackets you need. You must print 1 back, and 1 face bracket for each inner and outer bracket needed. Brackets are designed to fit 1-inch standard thickness wood. Simply pick a plank of wood with 1" standard thickness and cut to whatever desired length and depth you want; just be sure to make all of the boards the same. Pre-drill 4 holes on the ends of the boards with the printed jig. For this jig, glue a standard No. 4 washer (McMaster PN: 90107A005) into the jig for durability (consistent hole location is important). Screw #8 - 1 ¾" Grip Fast construction screws into the pre-drilled holes to a height that allows for the height jig to still be removed. You can always check the height with the brackets to make sure you have a solid hold without too difficult insertion and removal. If the height and size of the screw are perfect the bracket should click into place. Begin building your shelf in your desired configuration with only your inner and outer back bracket pieces and your boards. Place the shelf with only the back brackets and board where you want it on the wall and mark out/insert wall fasteners for the shelf. Once the shelf is mounted to the wall insert the face brackets on the shelf assembly.
