E36 BMW Phone Mount

Hello,

This is a phone holder/mount that fits in the center vent of a BMW 325i E36 and accepts an iPhone XS wearing a Zizo bolt case. 

I included the SolidWorks file so that the slot for the phone could be resized to anyone's particular phone + case very easily. All you have to do is download the file and modify Cut Extrude 1 → sketch 3 to change the desired dimensions to something that will fit your phone/phone case. Depending on the resulting modified dimensions you may have to also resize Boss Extrude 1 → Sketch 1 to get the desired wall thickness. 

The pattern on the back of the holder was just random and serves no functional purpose. You can keep it or change it to something you like more, just make sure there is enough material left on the perimeter to hold the phone sturdy. 

The phone can be charged while in the holder, and can also be placed in and removed out of the holder while still plugged in. The phone is displayed in a way that does not obstruct any view of the windshield or the gauge cluster. Blocking of the climate control vent is negligible. The phone is very easy to take out and put in. 

Due to the geometry of this holder, support material must be used. Once the print is complete remove the support material, and grab some small zip ties and some needle nose pliers/flush cutters. Insert the zip ties into the slots on the underside of the upper knob of the holder. Place the upper knob of the holder in the topmost opening of the center climate control vent in the car that it will fit in. Once the knob is in the opening fish the zip tie tails down and underneath the bottom slat that the knob is in contact with, and zip tie the phone holder to the vent. This will ensure the phone and phone holder are held securely in place during driving and phone placement and removal.
