Buddy3D Camera Mount for Original Prusa Enclosure

Description

Some of the existing modifications/add-ons installed on my enclosure are not compatible with other Buddy3D camera mounts that have been posted for the Original Prusa Enclosure, so I decided to design a new one.  This is a simple camera mount that uses the same two screws holes as the thermometer bracket, and will work with either the hinged lid or fixed top panel (which attaches inside the frame).  In addition, it has flexible cable routing options and a gap between the top of the mount and the enclosure for routing wires and filament tubing.

The bottom side of the clip uses an interleaved, stepped bridging pattern that allows it to print without supports; the steps are in increments of 0.2mm, so for proper printing, use 0.2mm layer spacing.

Design Features:

  • No supports required
  • Gap above the mount allows space for routing wires and filament tubes.
  • Camera clip can be installed at different angles of rotation (in 45 degree increments) to accommodate various USB cable routing and connector types.

Parts Required:

  • 2 x M3x10mm Socket Head Cap Screws
  • 2 x M3x12mm Socket Head Cap Screws
  • 3 x M3 nuts (2 of the nuts can be reused from the thermometer bracket)

Printing Notes:

  • Print with 0.2mm layer height, 3 perimeters, 15% infill.
  • Supports are not required for any of the parts.
  • Use a material that can withstand higher temperatures.  PETG will work as long as you are not printing high temperature filaments in the enclosure.  I used PC-CF for mine.  PLA is not recommended.
  • Please DO NOT use the .bgcode file that has been provided (always slice your own files for your specific printer, filament, environment, etc.).  The file uses customized profiles, and was only included to provide a reference for approximate print time.

Assembly Instructions (refer to photos):

Step 1:  Remove the two screws holding the thermometer bracket and remove the bracket from the enclosure frame.  The screws will not be reused (they will be replaced with longer 12mm screws).

Step 2:  Remove the two nuts from the thermometer bracket and save them for the next step; the nuts must be removed from the bracket for it to fit properly with the camera mount base.  The easiest way to remove the nuts is to thread a screw into the nut and pull the screw,

Step 3:  Press a new M3 nut into the upper screw hole on the camera mount base, and press the two nuts removed from the thermometer bracket in the previous step into the two lower holes of the camera mount base.

Step 4:  Line up the thermometer bracket with the camera mount base and press the two pieces together.

Step 5:  To avoid any frustration later when attaching the camera mount to the frame, use the “screw-pull” technique now to fully seat the two lower nuts.

Step 6:  Choose the clip orientation (which can be positioned in increments of 45 degrees) for the desired exit direction of the USB cable (the USB connector on the camera will be in-line with the two tabs on the clip after the camera is added).  Attach the clip to the base with an M3x10mm screw.  It is self-tapping; do not over-tighten.  The orientation can be changed later, after installation, by loosening the screw, rotating the clip, and re-tightening the screw.

Step 7:  Attach the assembly to the frame using one M3x10mm screw in the upper hole, and two M3x12mm screws in the lower holes.

Step 8:  Line up the slots on the Buddy3D camera with the 2 tabs on the clip, then rotate the camera 90 degrees clockwise to lock it into place (depending on the type of USB connector on the cable and where you have it oriented, you may need to attach the cable first).

Step 9:  Since the camera is mounted upside-down, rotate the image on the “Camera” tab in PrusaConnect.
