Edit: this model relies on hooking under the facial interface at the apex of the nose.  See the picture and check your unit before printing.

I looked at all the Quest 2 Wall Mounts and I really wanted to just print one and be done with it.  But I found each lacked something, so I rolled a remix.

My wishes:

  • a single wall mount for both the head unit and controllers.  Some popular solutions come as 2 separate mounts.
  • it should be easy to use.  No fumbling required.  e.g. I don't want to suspend the controllers from the wrist straps for them to clang on the wall.
  • it should be secure.  I don't favor the upside down controllers in cups - too easy to knock off the wall for my application.
  • the face pad should be able to air dry.  There are some nice designs that cradle the face pad but lack good air drying.
  • it should be designed well for 3d printing and be strong.  Some otherwise good designs failed at this.
  • have a good solution for the charging cable.  Many designs don't consider this.

I modeled this from scratch in Fusion 360, borrowing most of the design from the original I linked to.  That original model ticked most of the boxes above, but failed in one critical area and created its own ‘oh no’ category.  I remodeled to fix those two problems:

  • This is significantly stronger than the original.  The whole model is beefed up and in particular the arms for the controllers.
  • It is no longer a phallic symbol.  I'm not crazy about my design either, but I prefer alien over you-know-what.  I'd like to think Sigourney Weaver would agree.

Some gripes aside, the original design is pretty good and 10P6 deserves credit for it.   He posted a video showing how easy it is to use this .. which sold me on the design.  Check it out and show him some love: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6268579

Printing tips (at least for Bambu Carbon X1):

  • Use Tree Supports.  You need them but they work fabulously for this and are easy to remove.
  • Print with 6 walls min.  This part prints on the back so layer lines are not in the optimal direction.
  • For added strength on the ends of the controller arms, you can cut the model about ¾ of the way and selectively print with even more walls so those tips are .. let's not talk about tips.
  • The model comes as 2 parts to color the Oculus Logo.  The top 0.2mm surface of the Oculus logo is a separate part.  If you have a multi-color printer (e.g. Bambu), you can split the model into parts and use a different filament for that top logo layer.  If you print at a 0.2mm layer height, that will only require a single layer color swap.
  • The included 3MF contains all of these and more (e.g. variable layer height), which came out great.  I printed with Bambu Matte PLA.

I included STEP and Fusion360 files so you can modify, and the 3MF file to help get the same results as me.

Also included a model with the original 140mm screw pattern.  Only use it if you are swapping out the original.
