Description

As a mechanical engineer working in the biomedical field, I designed this simple Total Hip Replacement Model to educate and inspire those curious about the mechanics of orthopedic implants. This 3D-printable system showcases the components and principles behind modern hip replacements, helping to demonsrate the technology used to restore mobility and improve lives.

Key Features:

  • Triple-Tapered Hip Stem: Designed for optimal fit and stability, the stem features a precise taper that engages the femoral canal to reduce the risk of loosening.
  • 26mm Femoral Head: The femoral head is engineered to slide onto the head taper of the stem, ensuring a secure and stable connection while enabling smooth articulation with the acetabular liner.
  • Acetabular Liner: The liner uses a simple snap mechanism to snap the liner into the acetabular cup and provides a surface for the femoral head to articulate against, replicating the natural motion of the hip joint.
  • Multi-Hole Acetabular Cup: The acetabular cup features multiple holes for fixation, allowing flexibility in securing the implant using screws or press-fit techniques, just as in clinical practice.

Printing Tips:

  • Print the head and liner at a low layer resolution to prevent stepping. You can also sand the head and liner to help reduce the friction when assembled
