Description
This 19 inch rackmount for the Calix 716GE-I R2 ONT device builds on the flexible half-width-per-device rackmount system of Spekkie3D's HP Mini rackmounts to allow mounting of this common CenturyLink ONT device in one half of a 19-inch 1U space. This would fit alongside a 1L HP mini PC in a 1U space, for example. More rackmount pieces including blanks are available in the parent project and its other remixes.
Note: The current model is a right-side only mount, as that was what I needed for my rack, but it would be quick work to adapt this to a left-side as well. Please let me know if there is interest.
I printed this in PETG on a MK3S with these settings:
The part was oriented as in the model file, with the front face down on the bed. This worked “fine”, but there were some noticeable bridging artifacts at the top of the arch which would have been improved with a different shape (narrower span) or some supports.
As with Spekkie3D's design, this mount must be coupled to another half with six M3 bolts and hex nuts. The tolerances are snug and I recommend using the “nut pulling trick” whereby you temporarily insert a bolt into the hole, capture the hex nut, and keep turning the bolt to draw the nut all the way into the hole. Then remove the bolt leaving the nut behind.
Insert the Calix ONT from behind, carefully aligning the device's front bezel with the opening at the front of the rackmount. The fit is quite snug, by design. Depending on your printer tolerances you may need to sand or file for a good fit.
The model offers two retention options for holding in the Calix ONT device: First, there are two ridges meant to catch the ONT once fully inserted. Second, there are two additional countersunk screw holes, one from each side, meant to hold an M3 bolt for retention if the ridges did not work or do not align properly for your unit. As the ridges worked fine for me, I did not extensively test the bolt holes, and you may find that they are slightly too tight as well. Please let me know and I can adjust them.
