Solar Powered Perpetual Ball Drop

January 24, 2025
Description
This is a solar power ball perpetual ball drop. It uses steel balls with 8 mm dia and uses a N20 micro motor .
you will need M1.6 3 mm screws to fix the motor to the print.
The Onshape model is available here if you need to customize to as you see fit. Print with 100% infill.
Setup Instructions
- Super Glue the top and the bottom base. ( split for easier printing )
- Screw in the motor to the base.
- Slide in the Screw on to the motor. Please orient the notch before pushing in.
- Apply some hot glue in the last turn quarter of the screw on the top to fill in the place where the steel ball rests. this is to push it out when it reaches the top than to carry it upwards. ( this is important )
- use hot glue to adjust the bottom cone to catch the dropping balls.
- Test is a bit and if the ball is getting ejected well then super glue the cap on top.
I just taped a small solar panel and this to my window and starts working in the morning and runs all day till sunset. The auger / screw runs very slowing given that N20 motor has reduction gears for higher torque. If you happen to print please share your make.
thank you!
