Description
As a huge fan of pretty much everything about the IMAX film format, I wanted a scale model of an IMAX film camera for my desk. Not being able to find one, I designed it myself! I scoured the internet for reference pictures so I could add as much detail as possible. What I came up with is an amalgamation of the many slightly different models of camera that IMAX has built over the years. Also, it looks way better in person! The combination of a phone camera and low light don't do it justice!
Some things to know before printing:
The viewfinder tube will need to be glued into the viewfinder angle, and the single and double handles (they're rails to mount stuff to, but they look like handles) need to be glued to the camera body.
The .3mf file is the camera body with coloring in the logos and control/connection panels created in the Bambu slicer.
The lens and assembled viewfinder will friction fit and be positionable.
I printed this on a Bambu P1S with AMS. The camera body alone took almost 15 hours because of all the color changes!
Print with supports! I used tree supports for the camera body and they worked great.
I also printed mine at 125% scale. There are lots of small details on the control panel of the camera, and if you print smaller they're harder to see (obviously).
I'm sharing the Fusion360 file here in case anyone wants to design other viewfinders or lenses, or just wants to improve the model. (But be warned, it's a mess.)
