Description

I was interested in a straight key for portable ham radio operations with a magnetic return feature.  The Putikeeg MCT04 fit the bill in terms of size, quality, price, and features.  This key more commonly goes by the name, “Classical Morse Mini Code Key” on Amazon.  Here's a link to what I purchased:  https://a.co/d/bU0mnug (I am not an Amazon affiliate, just trying to directly let you know exactly what key this is for).

However, I also wanted to protect it from getting beat up while in my pack during transport so I designed a case to protect it that was easy to use and held the key securely so it didn't slap around while inside the case.  So, I designed this two-piece case that has a “leg” that comes into contact with the top of the key base at the side perimeters and keeps the key from bouncing and damage the key's knob and sending contacts.  If you inspect the files carefully you'll see the inner protrusions that accomplish this.  The case also has some subtle tabs and corresponding recesses for the tabs so the lid requires just a little bit of resistance to open up, but not so difficult to be a pain.

I printed my case in PETG and I strongly recommend PETG, ASA, or ABS for their superior impact resistance over PLA.  The dimensions work well for the amount of post-printing shrink characteristics of PETG.  If you use other materials, you may want to scale one side of the case slightly to loosen or tighten the interference of the two-pieces when the box is assembled.

Both STL and STEP files are attached.  I used the following basic printer settings:

0.2 mm layer height

3 walls

15% gyroid sparse infill

No supports required when you print the files as downloaded (flat sides down)
