Description
WARNING: work in progress!! I've already printed the test fit pieces in two very different materials, on two very different printers, and both fit well. However, that's not enough to be sure the completed object is functional at all.
I wanted a marudai, but they're super niche where I live, and thus very expensive. This one was designed in FreeCAD (1.1.0dev), which I am still kind of an amateur at. There are .stls and CAD files for both the actual design, and some small test pieces for checking if the joints fit correctly. I took all the measurements from a design by Michael Hattori, that I found on this blog. Reference images from there are embedded in the CAD files, as well as a spreadsheet of measurements. In this current version, it does require quite a large printer. The base alone is 355mm across. I may work on making that part more modular later on.
I posted the draft design to a FreeCAD community for feedback. The biggest takeaways seem to be that this would probably be better off in wood, and that it will need a lot of sanding on top.
V2: Reduced the filet in certain areas for better printing overhangs.
V3: Added a bracket to reinforce the legs in the middle.
