Description
The Hohem iSteady M7 is an impressive device because it keeps its smarts within the AI module, without needing to rely on your phone for tracking and controls. However, Hohem have hamstrung it somewhat by designing a mount that really only supports phones. You can just about wedge in an action camera, but it's inelegant as it's barely clamped onto, held off-centre and crushes the shutter button.
This mount allows you to attach a device with a ¼-20 UNC tripod mount while providing attachment points for ¼-20 UNC counterweights on the opposite side. Unless you are mounting the lightest of devices, you will almost certainly need counterweights to avoid having the tilt motor completely off-balance. Just remember to keep the total weight under the 500g limit of the gimbal! To do this, you might need to play with the centre of gravity rather than add lots of weight close to the pivot point.
The outer mounting holes are intentionally blind, but deep to allow you to use long threads. The middle mounting hole is not blind to allow you to mount a device on the top and a counterweight below. The holes are about as close to the centre of mass as permissible without allowing the heat set threaded inserts to burst through the wall.
These are the settings I've tested with, though there's nothing so special about this model that means you can't try other settings (though a finer layer height may be important for the screw thread to feel smooth).
Nozzle: 0.4mm
Layer height: 0.1mm
Material: Prusament PCCF
Supports: None
Skirt: None
Print as per the STL - largest flat side down.
You'll need a total of 4 ¼-20x12.7 (I know, mixing imperial with metric, sorry!) heat set threaded inserts to fill all of the accessory mounting holes. However, depending on your counterweight arrangement, you may not require all of them.
