Description

Bins and racks of many types, designed for the MultiConnect attachment system for Multiboard. The pictures show a few of the types. A range of printable bin sizes are provided, but there are many additional options available in the OnShape generator.

If you would like to create your own parts, you will need a personal OnShape license, which is free, and allows you to create as many projects as you like, with the proviso that they are in the public space, visible to anyone. For hobbyists this seems like a great deal. If there are a few sizes that seem especially useful, let me know and I can upload them in printable format.

The OnShape model can be found here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/c6637c5a42d174db4c7666c2/w/e65b38ba2926614ed162ac5a/e/bb2a005b4c9512487da29a2a .

Usage involves setting parameters in the window's top left, viewing the model to see if it meets your needs, and then exporting the single part called “Bin”, by right clicking on it and selecting “Export…”. You can export in 3MF or STL formats, among others.

I print these on my VzBoT 330 in PLA, with a 0.3mm layer height. No support is required.

These all print upright without supports. The major types are:

  1. Tub: a bin with a bottom
  2. Frame: a bottomless bin, useful for hanging things
  3. Tub Divided: a bin with subdivisions in x and/or y
  4. Frame Divided: a frame with subdivisions in x and/or y
  5. Solid: a solid version of the tub that can be further modified for custom storage needs
  6. Tool Array: a perforated solid that can be used to hang things like screwdrivers.

Parameters that can be set are as follows:

  1. Configuration: pick the type per the list above
  2. Label: a text label attached to the front face. The length is limited by the size of the front face, so you may have to try a few options to find something that works.
  3. Width: the external (total) width as measured parallel with the wall
  4. Depth: the external (total) depth of the enclosure, not including the projecting multiconnect mount
  5. Height: the total height of the unit. Minimum value is 15mm, which is just enough for the multiconnect attachment to work with reasonable loads
  6. X Divisions: the number of subdivisions in the X direction (width direction)
  7. Y Divisions: the number of subdivisions in the Y direction (depth direction)
  8. Wall thickness: the thickness of the external walls. 1.2mm is a reasonable minimum if printing with a 0.4mm nozzle
  9. Radius: you can specify front curved corners. The chosen value should be no more than half the width or the depth, whichever is smaller
  10. Hole Faces: for the tool array, you can specify anything from triangular holes up to 20 sides, which is roughly a circular hole.
  11. Divider thickness: the thickness of the internal dividers in X and Y.

With all these parameters there are a multitude of configurations. It's possible that some configurations won't generate correctly. If this happens, please let me know, and I'll see if I can fix it.
