Description

Most of the commercial hasselback potato slicers have several challenges

  1. The potato slices are wide, so they don't get extra crisp
  2. Slicing the ends of the potatoes is difficult without slicing all the way through the potato
  3. The potatoes can wobble around

The Rando Hasselback 1000 tries to overcome these challenges

  1. The tray is shaped like a potato, which makes it more stable
  2. Two pointed pins help secure the potato
  3. The sides of the tray follow the contour of a potato, reducing the chance of slicing completely through the potato
  4. The sliding guide bars allow you to slice the spud whatever thickness strikes your fancy
  5. There is a hand guard that hopefully protects your hand from errant behaviors

Please use caution, kitchen knives are sharp and without due care can cause serious bodily harm. Randco is not responsible for any injuries due to use or misuse of the Hasselback 1000.

Print/assembly details

  1. I printed this with PETG on an OPXL5H with .6 nozzles and variable layer height
  2. Minimal supports are required
  3. The slicer guides are attached with 3x10mm pan screws (I used Voron inserts)
  4. The tray side support bases are secured with 4x20mm pan screws (I used Voron inserts)
  5. The sliding slicer assembly is snug, so after printing run it back and forth about 20 times to smooth the print lines. I also applied a little silicone lube on the tray rails. After use they will slide more easily.
  6. You'll need to print two of the slicer guides and two base ends

Using the slicer

  1. The slicer is sized for medium sized spuds
  2. I like to use a thin bladed knife like a santoku or cheese knife, as they have either divots or ridges that reduce sticking from the starch in the potato
  3. I find that slicing from right to left (if you're right handed) is easier to observe and get consistent slices
