Description

I couldn't find any free models that I liked of the famous Neuralyzer memory wiping device from the Men In Black film franchise, so I made my own.  It's nearly accurate in size and appearance to the on-screen version that does not have the digital readout.

This model was made to accommodate LEDs and switches to replicate both the idle and flash states of the original device. I used organic/tree supports minimally. Tolerances are tight, so a well tuned printer is helpful.

To make it pop up:

You will need a spring around 90mm in length that compresses to about 10mm (about 1mm wire thickness). I repurposed a spring from a toilet paper roll holder. You will also need a small spring from a pen. That spring goes between the body and the clip. Lastly, a piece of 1.75mm filament was used to make the clip hinge. Just cut a little wider than needed and melt the ends or compress the ends with pliers.

For lighting you will need the following:

1x 6V white 5mm LED

1x 6V red or blue 5mm LED

1x 6x6x8mm tactile switch (for the white light flash)

1x 6x4mm normally closed tactile switch (for the idle state light)

4x LR41 button cell batteries

The build is pretty self explanatory once you print it. As for the electronics, take a look at the video below and attached pictures. The 2 LEDs go in the groove on the inside of the cap, the white one faces towards the flash lens and the red goes behind it.

The negative leads from both LEDs need to make contact to the negative end of the battery stack. The red LEDs positive lead gets wired to one of the leads of the bottom-most (smaller) switch. And the white’s to the switch behind the panel. The remaining lead on both switches need to contact the positive end of the battery stack, that’s the bottom of the stack in the picture.
