Description
Backstory of the SS Prusaweb:
In the 1950s, Prusa Industries sought to push the boundaries of mechanical design, creating the SS Prusaweb as an upgrade to their iconic Benchy. This spider-inspired machine was built for versatility and rugged environments. Its body, made of polished steel and adorned with a ring of bolts around two holes in the hull, gave it an eerie yet mechanical look—an illusion of eyes that made it appear almost alive.
Equipped with six articulated legs, the Prusaweb could navigate rough terrains and tight spaces with ease, making it perfect for tasks in construction or exploration. Hidden within its frame was a network of flexible tendrils—its web—designed to assist in lifting, securing, and assembling materials with precision.
The SS Prusaweb became a symbol of innovation, deployed in extreme conditions on Earth and in space. Though it’s now a relic of the past, it remains a testament to the bold, artistic spirit of early 3D printing technology.
