Comet Cutter Lite

A 3D print-optimized version of my Comet Cutter utility knife, the Comet Cutter Lite is the perfect quick and easy solution to the problem of never having a knife on hand when you need one. The blade locks in both the open and closed positions.

Included are a standard version and one with holes for 2 disc magnets (5mm dia. x 1.8mm thick).

Instructions

For simplicity, I will refer to the piece with the large trapezoidal hole as the “front” and the other piece as the “back”.

1. Print the parts. You can use any material (I used PLA) and no supports are required.
2. Assemble the knife. Simply slide the front onto the back until the halves fully align. Make sure the parts are fully seated by checking the seam around the outside.
3. Insert a blade. Any standard utility blade will fit--just press the spring bar back and insert the blade from the front.

To use the knife, simply press down on the blade and slide forwards to extend. Repeat the motion in the other direction to retract the blade.
