Description

I designed this pen cup after seeing a vase printed with a space to add a line of filament as an accent, and I thought a simple pen cup like that would be nice.

I've designed this to be printed either as a solid, or in vase mode.

Using a standard 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer heights on a Tevo Tornado (CR10 clone), I've achieved best results for a solid cup with a 0.41 extrusion width and 2 perimeters and no gap fill for a roughly 6 hour print.  In vase mode, a 0.5mm extrusion width, with anywhere between a 1.0mm to 2.0mm bottom solid layers for a 3.5 hour print.

If the filament is too tight to slide into the slots, you can snap it into place from the sides.

The cap on top is optional, and only fits the solid body print.  It can be fixed in place with your favorite CA glue.

There are 48 filament slots which I thought gave the best balance between pattern variations and filament color choices.

A Fusion360 file is also included for those who would like to use it to make modifications. Most of the parts are constrained to defined parameters, such as the cup height, the outer diameter, the inner diameter, the filament hole diameter, the diameter of the coil that provides the cut up the sides, and how many of those cuts are patterned around the cup.

You can also use the PrusaSlicer Cut tool to make a squat version of the cup body to make a small parts cup, perfect for handfuls of screws or other small bits and pieces.

This seems to be an excellent way to find a use for those last few meters of shiny or otherwise specialty filaments in a way that is decorative and useful.
